What is an “Atelier” ?

Atelier (at·el·ier): a French term for an artists workshop or studio.

Beyond the definition is a tradition that predates the Renaissance and gained popularity in 19th century France for its rigorous, classical approach to a specialized art education.

Walnut Street Atelier is committed to upholding this tradition, offering classical training for the contemporary artist.

Shannon Vaught is an artist and instructor based in Columbus, Ohio. She teaches and exhibits nationally + internationally.

After 3 years of classically based training, Shannon earned her BFA in Drawing + Painting from the Laguna College of Art + Design in 2019. Her time spent studying the human figure left her hungry for more, and she picked up a few classes at Watts Atelier and began attending various life drawing groups. Eventually, hosting life drawing sessions of her own in her private studio. It was a natural transition into teaching from there, modeling technical discipline married with personal expression to her students.
