Do you crop the hands out of your portrait paintings or strategically hide them behind other elements in the composition? Then this workshop is for you! Join us for a 1-day, 5 hour intensive on hands and stop avoiding them forever!
We will discuss fundamentals such as drawing, anatomy, value, form, etc - all through the lens of alla prima oil painting. Students will leave with a completed painting demonstrating all of the above as well as knowledge on how to approach hands moving forward.
INSTRUCTOR: Shannon Vaught
PREREQUISITES: None, but some drawing or painting experience encouraged

Canvas, linen, panel, or oil primed paper - size 8x10 or 9x12
OIL PAINT:
(I like M Graham and Gamblin brand paint)
Titanium White
Cadmium Yellow
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Red
Alizarin Crimson
Transparent Red Oxide
Ultramarine Blue
Raw Umber
Ivory Black
BRUSHES:
Assortment of flats or filberts - I like Trekell’s Legions and Rosemary’s Eclipse synthetics Blick also has a brand called Princeton that is pretty good (sizes 2, 6, 10)
Synthetic round (for drawing and detail) size 0
Large bristle round OR synthetic mop brush for softening edges (size 12 or larger)
SOLVENT:
Odorless mineral spirits, I use Gamsol
PALETTE:
Glass, wood or paper palette
MISC:
Paper Towels or rags for clean up
